Knorr Master of Seasoning 2018 came to a thrilling close in Dubai on October 7th, with Chef Hany Haddad crowned the winner of the Gulf-wide competition. The exciting final took place at International Centre for Culinary Arts, Dubai, and saw 5 chefs battle it out in a challenging cook-off

The 5 finalists had been chosen from the 150 applicants who entered the competition. Three judges: Jean van der Westhuizen, Executive Chef Middle East, Pakistan & Sri Lanka at Unilever Food Solutions, Chef Leyla, Presenter on Fatafeat TV and Discovery Network and Melinda Taylor, Foods Director of MEPS, SA and ANZ at Unilever Food Solutions, challenged the finalists’ creativity and professional skills and inspired them to take their dishes to the next level!

During the first round, they had to create a tasty and traditional biryani using the Knorr Chicken Stock range. The second, and final, round saw them take on a mystery box challenge. The judges scored each contestant on presentation, flavour and creativity.

Chef Hany, who is Head Chef of Zahrat el Dar in Sharjah, UAE, topped the scoring, winning the Knorr Master of Seasoning title. Chef Sreejith Nair, Sous Chef at The Oberoi, Business Bay Dubai, took second place, and Chef Kadrianta Sinulingga, Executive Chef at Centara Hotel in Muscat, scooped third place.

“What inspired me to participate in this competition was the opportunity to challenge myself and to encourage other chefs to compete next year,” said Chef Hany when asked what his motivation was for entering the competition. “My advice to all chefs is to never stop believing in yourself,” he added.

Speaking after his win Chef Hany said: “Hard work, experience and focusing on seasoning more than anything else,” had helped to give him the edge on finals day. He added that the main challenge in the final had been how to present his dishes.
