Outside of the home, the most popular place to drink tea is the office. 51% of outside home tea consumption occurs in the workplace. And with good reason, tea is refreshing, hydrating and great for bringing colleagues together. There’s nothing better than a catch-up with a colleague while your cup of tea is brewing.
But those aren’t the only reasons you should be stocking your office pantry with tea. Tea, and in particular green tea, is packed with phytonutrients and flavonoids that can be beneficial to the health and productivity of your employees.
Green tea contains flavonoids called catechins and L-theanine (an amino acid), which are good for improving attention and reducing stress. Green tea also provides a gentle hit of caffeine, just the right amount to lift energy levels, while caffeine and L-theanine in combination can give the brain a boost, leading to improved performance.
Post-lunch tends to be when most people hit a slump, which probably explains why green tea consumption hits its peak between 2-3pm. A reported 79% of green tea drinkers brew up their favourite beverage at this time, probably to give their body and mind the lift it needs for the afternoon ahead.
So perhaps it’s time to introduce a new office rule – the ‘green tea at two’ rule. Serve all your employees freshly brewed cups of green tea, and then watch to see the positive effect it has on their mood, productivity and concentration levels.
